Mother's Day Gifts Ideas

They say a mother's love comes second to God loves; or a mother's love is God's love being manifested in the world. These are very strong and bold convictions, but history will show us the undeniable importance and honor for mothers, rooting from the very same conviction. The contemporary Mother's Day celebration in the United States was created by Anna Jarvis; which later on became a commercialized holiday. This is a probable cause of the increase in sales of Mother's Day gifts.

In ancient Greece, a festival to honor Cybele was observed every March 15 to March 18. This celebration started from the Vernal Equinox around Asia Minor and eventually in Rome. Cybele is the great mother of Greek god. To mark this celebration, Mother's Day gifts were given in her honor.

Moreover, in Rome, there is an ancient Holiday called Matronalia and was dedicated to Juno an ancient Roman goddess, the protector and special counselor of the state. She is a daughter of Saturn and sister (but also the wife) of the chief god Jupiter and the mother of Mars, Minerva and Vulcan. Mothers during those times were also given Mother's Day gifts.

In UK and Europe, old documents also revealed that the Mothering Sunday tradition have a centuries long history. It is a significant part of the liturgy in the Anglican and Catholic calendar. It is referred to as Laetare Sunday; this is every fourth Sunday in Lent to honor the mother church and the Virgin Mary. This celebration is traditionally marked by giving tokens and Mother's Day gifts.

During the 1870, Howe's Mother's Day Proclamation was written by Julia Howe to call for the celebration of Mother's Day in the United States. It is however has a political drive to react to the carnage of the American Civil War and the Franco-Russian War. In its first day of celebration, Mother's Day gifts, usually roses are given to mothers all around the United States.

Mother's Day is a global holiday although observed and celebrated in different dates. The earliest celebration in a year is held every 2nd of February in Greece and 22nd of December being the last which is observed in Indonesia. Whenever we celebrate Mother's Day it is important to remember we show our mothers how we truly appreciate them with or without Mother's Day gifts.
