Innovations in Business Telephone Systems

By: Alex Tipu

It's not been very long since businesses used PABX exchanges, had operators transferring calls, dialling numbers to connect to to people located elsewhere. Businessmen and executives used to go to attend meetings- well all that is history now and the telecommunication industry coupled with IT technology has changed the business telephone system entirely. Fiber optic and PCs have been the two driving forces that have changed the way we do business now. Even diehard businessmen have had to change and adapt to new technologies. Call a meeting in the conference room and everyone will walk in with laptops, not notepads and pens.

The internet has changed the entire perception of business. Emails have taken over from letters, memos and faxes. Online banking has taken over from writing and sending cheques. Companies that used to depend on the normal telephone system have switched over to VoIP.

The present day telephone system is expandable. They are flexible to accommodate the modification according to the needs of the company. Business telephone systems have migrated from the public switched telephone networks to the IP networks. The advanced telephony service is able to connect to the IP network while keeping the connection with the conventional telephone network. The hybrid systems with the SIP standards ensure the system compatibility without any obstruction.

Centre point technology has presented a hybrid phone system. It is known as TalkSwitch. TalkSwitch is a special telephony service suitable for business with as many as 32 phone users daily. The promising entry ensures next wave of systems with power of Private Branch Exchange at very reasonable prices.

The internet and VoIP have given birth to an absolutely new industry, the call centre industry. Previously, companies had one help line and it used to be frustrating when a caller got a busy tone. Now the helpline person or persons know when there is an incoming call and can switch between calls. The customer support services of businesses have improved significantly and costs have reduced.

Some VoIP service providers offer monthly fixed rate packages so that you can make as many calls as you want to any number of destinations and pay a fixed amount. Other VoIP service providers charge per call but their rates are much less than normal telephone charges. Therefore depending on your requirements you can get the VoIP service that suits your business.

You can scan and send documents over the internet or if you need to send faxes you can hook your fax machine to an ATA (analog telephone adaptor) and use the VoIP to send and receive your faxes. You can also hook your analog phone to it and use the VoIP service for your phone calls.

The business telephone systems mediate a voice mail service. It includes leaving messages for the unavailable employees. They also feature call holding and call forwarding service. It facilitates a music hold service that engages the caller on hold and provides something to listen in the waiting loops.

The advanced telephone system is fully equipped to mediate an offsite connection through the internal extension. The system also allows the users to direct their phone or demands to another phone, cell phone, home phone etc. Computer has improved the performance of every service. The advanced telephone systems are easily connected with the computers. A number on the computer screen, when clicked, is automatically dialled by the telephone system. The computer also displays the caller ID. This caller ID is delivered to the database, which automatically displays the account of the caller. Thus, the telephone system has been innovated to meet all the requirements of the modern age businesses.
